Barrel Maturation

Join Matt Bailey from The Scotch Malt Whisky Society (Australian Branch) as he takes you through the different maturations of whisky at The Barrel Collective in Launceston.

Aging a spirit in a barrel is one of the most transformative, and romanticized, methods in all of spirits production. The basic concept is straightforward: after distillation, a spirit is placed in a barrel, typically made of oak, which over time imparts the spirit with a brownish amber color and “oak-y” flavors like vanilla and toffee, but there is so much more.

Join Matt and distilleries for an informative and conversation flowing event.

The Barrel Collective is built on a simple concept – bringing the finest handcrafted Tasmanian spirits to you. Owner Michael Bernhagen wanted to create a space where he could showcase some of the best products Launceston and Tasmania has to offer. He believes in our state, our producers, and our product; the experience of Tasmania can’t be found anywhere else in the world.
