Ten years of Tasmanian Whisky Week
A celebration of the island, distilled.
Tasmanian Whisky Week is the annual gathering of the island’s distillers, partner bars, and whisky lovers — nine days of tastings, dinners, masterclasses, and the flagship Princes Wharf No. 1 Showcase. In August 2026 we mark a decade. Run by the Tasmanian Whisky & Spirits Association.
Tasmanian Whisky Week began in 2016, when a small group of the island’s distillers decided the story of Tasmanian whisky was worth telling on its own terms. What started as a long Saturday tasting on the waterfront and a handful of cellar-door openings has, over a decade, grown into nine days of dinners, masterclasses, and trail-driving — the week each year when the whole island slows down to talk about what’s in the glass.
The festival is run by the Tasmanian Whisky & Spirits Association, the industry body for the island’s distillers. The TWSA works year-round to champion Tasmanian craft spirits — supporting members with technical knowledge, advocating on the issues that matter to small producers, and running the year-round Tasmanian Whisky & Spirits Trail. Whisky Week is the moment each August when all of that work surfaces in public: a festival built by every distillery on the island, for anyone curious about what comes out of it.
What sets it apart? The geography, for one — Tasmania is small enough to drive across in a day and varied enough that no two distilleries taste the same. The batches are small, the casks are personal, and the people behind the still are usually the people pouring the spirit. There are no celebrity ambassadors here, no scripted brand stories. Just makers, on home soil, talking shop over the bar.
What we stand for.
01
Producer-led
Every event is run with the distillers themselves at the bar. No middlemen, no marketing speak — just makers talking about their craft.
02
Honestly Tasmanian
From the cellar door to the showcase floor, this festival is about Tasmanian liquid in Tasmanian glasses. The island earned its reputation; we’re here to put it on display.
03
For the curious
First-time tasters and lifelong collectors should both find a program that fits. We deliberately mix drag-show pairings with single-cask masterclasses.

How do I get to Tasmania?
Direct flights to Hobart and Launceston from most Australian capitals, or the Spirit of Tasmania ferry from Geelong. The island is small enough to drive across in a day, so basing yourself in Hobart or Launceston puts you within easy reach of most distilleries.
